Research Interests

My research interests focus primarily on avian behavior, especially song. For my master's research, I am investigating the ways that toxins (like mercury) affect Nelson's Sparrow song in northern Atlantic salt marshes – habitats already at great risk because of rising sea levels and increasing development pressures. I hope to continue exploring ways that we can protect wildlife in a rapidly changing world, and ultimately I seek to communicate effectively with various sectors of our society. I believe that we will increasingly be able to identify land use and management strategies that can preserve our natural resources while also meeting human needs.
